Behavioral Intelligence

Your customers always tell you before they leave.

Telltale reads your orders, subscriptions, support tickets and reviews to find the customers quietly on their way out — then writes the campaigns to bring them back and proves what it recovered against a held-back control group.

How it works

What Telltale is, and how it works.

It turns the customer signals you already generate into proactive retention decisions — then activates the right play through the email and SMS stack you already run.

One customer’s journey Maya R.

Customer Signals

8 live sources
  • Orders
  • Subscriptions

Maya’s third order ships four days late. Nothing flags it, and nobody hears from her.

Step 02 of 06

Data Enrichment

Profile built
  • Public-data inference
  • Customer context
  • Profile enrichment
  • Smarter inputs

Telltale fills in who she is and how she tends to buy — without asking her a thing.

Step 03 of 06

Telltale Intelligence Layer

The brain
  • Scored against her own history
  • 15 intelligence engines
  • 7 learning families
  • Refreshed nightly

Every signal she has ever generated is scored against her own buying history, not an industry average.

Step 04 of 06

Understand Each Customer

Per person
  • Churn risk
  • Satisfaction
  • Purchase intent
  • Best channel
  • Best timing
  • Lifecycle stage

Her reorder gap is stretching and her risk is climbing. She is weeks from gone.

Step 05 of 06

Recommend the Right Play

13 plays
  • Payment Rescue
  • Time to Reorder
  • Keep Your Subscription
  • Win-Back
  • Cross-Sell
  • Loyalty Reward

Win-Back is queued for her — audience, offer, channel and timing already chosen.

Step 06 of 06

Activate + Measure

Your ESP + SMS
  • Save customers
  • Recover revenue
  • Prove lift against a holdout
  • Stop guessing
  • Act before they leave

She reorders. And the gain is measured against customers we deliberately held back.

From signals to decisions to action — so you spot risk earlier, act smarter, and keep more customers.

Illustrative walkthrough. Maya is a fictional customer and her portrait is AI-generated — not a real person — and the readouts are examples. In the app every number comes from your own customers.

Reasons, not vibes

Every score comes with the reason behind it.

Telltale doesn’t just tell you someone is slipping. It tells you why — shipping delays, a slowing reorder rhythm, a paused subscription, a support ticket that went badly — and what that reason is worth.

  • Forward revenue at risk, quantified in dollars
  • Per-customer risk scores with the drivers behind them
  • A churn horizon: who walks in 30, 60, 90 days — and what acting now saves

Integrations

Works with the stack you already run.

Telltale reads from your store, subscriptions, helpdesk and reviews — and sends through the email and SMS tools you already pay for. Every connection you add makes the AI analytics sharper, because it can see one more reason customers leave. Nothing to rip out.

Proven Impact

We hold customers back on purpose.

Before every send, a slice of eligible customers is held back at random and never contacted. We compare what your contacted customers did against that held-back group — so the number you see is revenue Telltale caused, not revenue that would have happened anyway.

  • Causal lift measured against your own control group — not last-click attribution
  • Until a result clears statistical verification we say “measuring”, rather than quote you a number we can’t stand behind
  • Your performance fee is billed on proven lift only

Questions

Straight answers.

What does Telltale actually do for me?
It tells you which customers are about to stop buying while you can still do something about it — and has the emails and texts to win them back already written and waiting. Most brands find out someone left when they look at next quarter’s numbers. This is the same information, months earlier, with the work done.
What do I have to do to set it up?
Click install on the Shopify App Store. That is genuinely it — Telltale reads your order history by itself and your first report is ready in two to five minutes. Nothing to add to your website, no developer, no data export. If you are not on Shopify, send us your order history as a CSV and we will take it from there.
What do I have to do every week?
As little as you like. Telltale queues the campaigns worth sending, each with the audience, timing, offer and copy already decided. You can read them and hit approve, or let it send them for you inside limits you set. There is no calendar to plan and no segments to build.
Do I have to switch email or SMS platforms?
No, and you shouldn’t. Telltale decides who to reach and writes the message, then sends it through the platform you already pay for — Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, Postmark, Postscript, Attentive, Twilio or Heymarket. Your subscriber list, your unsubscribes and your sending reputation all stay where they are.
How do I know it is actually working?
Because we deliberately don’t contact everyone. Before each send, a random slice of the customers who qualified is held back and left alone. Your result is the difference between the two groups — revenue we caused, not revenue that would have arrived anyway. Until that difference is large enough to be trusted, we show “measuring” instead of a number, and we don’t bill on it.
What data does it need?
Your order history is enough to start. Connecting more makes it sharper: subscriptions (Recharge) surface paused plans and failed cards, a helpdesk (Gorgias, Zendesk, Intercom) surfaces tickets that went badly, reviews (Judge.me, Birdeye, Sonar) surface unhappy customers. Those are usually the real reasons people leave, and they are invisible in order data alone.
What if my store is new, or fairly small?
It still works, and it will tell you when it is leaning on patterns from similar stores rather than enough of your own history. You will see a clearly labelled “proving” state rather than a confident-looking number we cannot stand behind. As your data builds, it switches over to your store automatically.
Is it safe to let it send on its own?
Yes, and the limits are the point. A cap on sends per day and per week, a minimum gap before the same person can be contacted again, a ceiling on how many messages anyone gets in a week, and texts only inside the recipient’s own 8am–8pm window. Unsubscribes from your email and SMS platforms are pulled in and honoured. You can also leave everything in approve-first mode, where nothing sends without your click.
How is my data handled?
Customer emails and phone numbers are stored hashed rather than in the clear, the credentials for your connected platforms are encrypted at rest, and store and customer deletion requests are honoured. Your customer records are never shared with anyone.
What does it cost?
From $199 a month based on how many contacts you have, plus 2–5% of the revenue we can prove we recovered for you — dropping to 3% and then 2% as your recovered total grows. Every plan is the full product and starts with a free 30-day trial. See the pricing breakdown.
